Things To Do

Things to Do

Santa Fe is located in a high mountain valley at an altitude of 7,000 feet. There are four distinct seasons with an average of 300 sunny days each year. Summer days are warm and evenings comfortably cool. Winter brings crisp days and some snow, which usually melts quickly.

The hotel is located on Santa Fe’s historic Plaza making it an ideal location for enjoying both cultural activities and outdoor adventures. La Fonda also is a Partner Hotel for Santa Fe Mountain Adventures which offers an innovative combination of outdoor adventures, wellness and lifestyle seminars, southwestern cultural experiences, and spiritual enrichment opportunities, coupled with the comfort and convenience of staying downtown.

From mountain streams to aspen vistas to alpine lakes, there’s adventure at every turn. Here are some of the many things to do outdoors, all within a short drive from La Fonda.

Cross-Country and Downhill Skiing:

New Mexico has more than nine million acres of national forest, and cross-country skiers are taking more and more to the back country where the snow is deep, the views spectacular and the solitude revitalizing. Downhill skiing is just a 25-minute drive from La Fonda at the Santa Fe Ski Area. Visit Ski Santa Fe.

Hiking:

Hiking trails are numerous for all levels of hikers, from easy trails to more rigorous climbs. For more information visit New Mexico True or contact the National Forest Service, 505-842-3292 or the Bureau of Land Management 505-438-7400.

Other activities available include: sailplane soaring among the clouds, early morning hot-air ballooning, boating in no-wake lakes, and rock climbing, running, sledding, snowboarding and inner-tubing, ice skating, swimming and tennis.
